Anal and Prostate Play for Beginners: A Safe, Shame-Free Start

Plaisir toys on dark silk

Anal play is one of the most searched and least openly discussed areas of pleasure. The area is rich in nerve endings for people of every gender, and for people with a prostate, it offers a kind of sensation many find very different from other touch. Curiosity is common and completely normal. What matters most is going about it safely and comfortably.

THE GOLDEN RULES1Flared baseOnly use toys madefor anal play2LubePlenty of it,then a bit more3Go slowRelax, breathe, stop if it hurts
These three rules cover most of what you need to know.

Rule one: always use a flared base

Unlike other parts of the body, the rectum can draw objects inward. Only use toys designed for anal play, with a wide, flared base or handle that stays outside the body. Every plug and prostate massager in our Anal & Prostate collection is designed this way.

Rule two: lubricant is essential

The anus does not produce its own lubrication. Use a generous amount of water-based lubricant on the toy and the body, and reapply whenever things start to feel dry. With silicone toys, stick to water-based formulas.

Rule three: slow and relaxed

Discomfort is a signal to slow down or stop, never something to push through. Take time to relax first, breathe deeply, and start with external touch before any insertion. Small sizes and patience make the experience far more enjoyable.

Choosing a first toy

  • Butt plug training sets come in three progressive sizes, so you can start with the smallest and move up only when you feel ready. Stainless steel is smooth, easy to clean and can be warmed in water first.
  • Prostate massagers are curved to reach the prostate, which sits a few centimetres inside towards the front of the body. Vibrating models with a remote allow hands-free use, solo or with a partner.

Hygiene, simply

Going to the bathroom beforehand and a shower is usually all the preparation you need. Wash toys thoroughly before and after use, and never move a toy from anal to vaginal use without cleaning it first (or changing the condom on it). See our cleaning guide for details.

A note on health

If you experience pain, bleeding or ongoing discomfort, stop and speak to a healthcare professional. Mild sensitivity the first few times is normal; sharp pain is not.
